Helping shape the future of OS Greenspace products

Ordnance Survey (OS) will be retiring OS MasterMap Greenspace and OS Open Greenspace in Spring 2027. This presents the opportunity to rethink and redesign replacement Greenspace products to fit with more contemporary use cases and requirements. That’s why OS, in collaboration with Geovation, has established the Greenspace User Feedback Programme.

Together we are:

  • Engaging with early-stage innovators to explore and analyse the present and future data needs of users of the data.
  • Generating insights that will inform future upgrade plans for our data.

The overall aim of the programme is to ensure Greenspace data remains fit for purpose in the modern context.

Our Approach

We are conducting a series of interviews and exercises
over the coming months with users of Greenspace Data

Timeline
Stage One: Submission of interest to engage
Submissions close 13th October
Stage Two: Interviews
Virtual interviews take place on the week commencing 27th October

Who are we engaging with?

We’re engaging with innovators, including Geovation Ecosystem members, and startups. We’re also especially interested in engaging with existing users of the OS MasterMap Greenspace and OS Open Greenspace products.

Example use cases

  • Public accessibility to green spaces in urban environments
  • Calculating green land cover in urban environments
  • Creating green corridors for urban wildlife
  • Modelling temperature for urban heat islands
  • Modelling water run-off for flood risk management

How can we evolve Greenspace Data together?

OS NGD has provided a new data architecture from which to build OS Greenspace products from. We want to understand what further land classifications and attribution would be useful when reimagining OS MasterMap Greenspace, and what land use classifications and attribution would be useful when reimagining OS Open Greenspace.
