Meet Michael Denicolai, he’s a Geospatial Analyst, Knight Frank and we’re delighted to have him as a mentor on the Geovation Mentorship Programme. He kindly shared his experiences of being a mentor in this blog post.
What have you liked about the Mentorship Programme?
The opportunity to share knowledge and skills and meet new people from different backgrounds.
Going into the program, what did you hope to get out of it?
The chance to offer my advice and expertise and also learn new things from my mentee, as well as personal and professional development.
What do you think the ‘secret’ is to a good mentoring relationship?
Listen to each other, ask questions and offer support and advice, but also see it as a two-way relationship. Set clear objectives about what you would both like to achieve.
What benefit do you think it brings to the community/members?
It allows greater knowledge sharing and brings the community closer together, by allowing members to get to know each other on a one-to-one basis.
What tips or advice would you like to share with those new to mentoring?
Be friendly, open to discussion, and not afraid to share or suggest new ideas. But also listen to your mentee’s needs and have fun!
Become a Mentor/Mentee
We intend to begin our next cycle of mentoring in September 2022 and are excited to welcome even more mentees and mentors to our Programme. Are you interested in signing up either as a mentor or a mentee? If so, please register your interest here and Geovation will contact you nearer the time!
