We’ve spent a few minutes getting to know the founders behind Atmo for the last of our ‘meet the founder’ blogs, introducing the latest cohort of startups on our Accelerator programme.
Q: Who are the founders behind Atmos, and what is your background?
A: Guy & Paddy (CEO & CTO) met on the Innovation Scholarship scheme at the University of Bath in 2016; Paddy having won the award for electrical engineering, and Guy for mechanical engineering. Paddy is a world-class engineer and Guy makes things happen (his first big project was co-founding https://teambathracingelectric.com/).
Having joined forces in 2016 and built the core technologies behind our service, we landed our first larger clients in 2017 and have continued to grow ever since.
Q: Tell us the story behind your startup – why did you start your company?
A: 13,000 people die every year from breathing in harmful dust and chemicals at work according to the HSE. As young engineers, we were horrified by the lack of data available to decision makers in industry and set out to build tools to help managers protect staff on site and our environment.
Q: What does success look like for you?
A: Success is when we deliver an amazing service on site. Behind this, we develop game-changing software and have a growing expertise in occupational health and environmental management, but these are a means not an end. Our number one goal will continue to be: helping clients protect their staff, environment and local communities.
Q: What’s your biggest achievement so far?
A: Building the core technologies behind our service – it enables everything else we do.
Q: What are your plans for your startup over the next six months?
A: We have works commencing with a number of new customers as well as upgrades for existing customers – our focus is on delivering a world class service for them. In the background, investment is powering R&D and in 2020 we will be patenting new technologies which we have in the pipeline, as we aim to revolutionise health and safety and environmental monitoring.
