Engine Shed and Innovation Birmingham extend their partnership with Geovation
We are delighted to have both the Engine Shed (Bristol) and Innovation Birmingham continue their partnership with us, as we continue to build our network of Geovation Partner Hubs. With more news to follow soon on how the network is extending further, we thought we’d bring you an update on the types of activities we have been up to recently with our partner hubs, what’s in the pipeline…and how you can benefit from the opportunities!
Firstly, here is a quick recap of what we can offer Geovation Members – at our network of Partner Hubs:
- Access to FREE desk space & discounted rates on meeting room hire
- Access to discounted workshops being run at the Partner Hubs
- Business advice and mentorship – access to the Partner Hubs network of mentors, investors, and other ‘in-residence’ services.
- Access to engage in Partner Hub events, which are tailored to start-ups/scale-ups needs.
One of the companies to have benefited from Geovation’s help is Bristol’s DronePrep, a platform that supports drone flights. DronePrep recently assisted in the UK’s first medical drone deliveries.CEO of DronePrep Gareth Whatmore said: “In the early stages of our product build and validation we found receptive clients and partners in the form of Bristol City Council, Bristol Film Office and the University of West England. All of these connections and subsequent growth was made possible by the fabulously supportive teams at Engine Shed and Geovation.”
Another Bristol-based company to make use of the partnership is Atmo, who provides air quality monitoring for heavy industry. Atmo Founder, Guy Barkley said: We met Geovation at Engine Shed and applied to their funded Accelerator Programme. We found the support on geo-location data super useful.”
With similar support offered by Innovation Birmingham – we are keen to hear from you if you are interested in learning more how we can support you.
Connecting our community with organisations, investors, fellow entrepreneurs etc. in the midlands is something we have been able to achieve as a result of running outreach events, such as the well-established Meetup event – “Tech Wednesday”.
Last week, we ran a Geovation Takeover of Tech Wednesday for the third time, and we involved four of our fantastic Geovation start-ups:
- Edmund Ojo – Lairvue
When Edmund and his friend were looking for a property last year, it became a nightmare when the private landlord kept cancelling and turning up late, when the landlord told them it was difficult to arrange viewings around his day-to-day schedule, they came up with an app to solve his problems. Lairvue is a property viewing company providing a comprehensive 7 day viewing service to ensure property viewings do not get cancelled, postponed or missed. - Matt Pierri – Sociability
After moving to the UK from Australia, Matt discovered the difficulty in finding accessibility information in advance from venues. Sociability App is designed to help disabled people find accessible places, empowering greater social inclusion through better accessibility information. - Annabel Healer- The Future Fox
Product Manager Annabel talked us through The Future Fox; a software for communities to transform their neighbourhood, and for planners to create better places, faster, with AI. They have helped build cycle route networks, mobilised thousands of people to make changes to their neighbourhoods and created new interactive digital experiences. - Oscar van Heek – Walks & Waterfalls
Founder Oscar Van Heek has a passion for photography, particularly natural spaces. This love for photographic waterfalls lead to the development of a treasure app to help users locate Scotland’s waterfalls, wild swimming spots, undiscovered walks, and heritage sites.
You can check a recording of the session here.
With more (virtual) Outreach events in the coming weeks being delivered in collaboration with our Partner Hubs (check out our Get Rich Quick talk; and our OS Data Hub sessions planned for Bristol Technology Festival), could you be the next to benefit from the connections we can provide for you?
