Essential mapping software trusted by rural teams and professionals
The Land App started life in 2015 after its founder, Tim Hopkin, experienced first-hand how difficult it was to appraise alternative land uses and plan for the future on his family’s farm in Surrey. With initial support from the Ordnance Survey, the first Land App prototype was developed on the first Geovation cohort in collaboration with farmers, rural estates and land agents and was continually enhanced with their feedback.
Day to day, The Land App allows farmers to quickly and simply import their RPA field boundaries from which they can currently create Basic Payment Scheme, Countryside Stewardship, Natural Capital Baseline and whole farm plans which automatically generates exportable excel files (containing feature values) and summary reports in the format required by DEFRA.
Today, The Land App software is trusted by thousands of estate managers, farm business consultants, environmental consultants and land agents throughout the UK to manage all their spatial data in one place and make more informed land-use decisions. This year alone one million hectares of farmland has been mapped onto The Land App (approximately 10% of the farmed area in England).
The Land App’s mission is to help people make the right land-use decisions through technology by bringing together data, people and incentives in a modern and accessible online platform, underpinned by geospatial technology. The Land App, as a user-friendly online mapping tool, is just the beginning. The vision is to harness geospatial technology to create a future that empowers resilient businesses, fosters a thriving natural environment, and delivers meaningful collective action on everything from climate change to sustainable food production’.
